My Mihimihi

The Patu mania

The Patu mania is often used in a Kapa Haka group for Maori’s. It is made out of wood by a jigsaw, a rasp, and dye or paint. In the Kapa Haka group the Patu Mania is used by the leader.

Prayer time

Room 3 got into a circle and watched carefully how Miss G lit the three candles. We were waiting until Rachel asked us to say the sign of the of the cross. In the name of the father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Some of us closed our eyes and some would just be quiet. There are two leaders in our class, both of them said a prayer. Finally we said the sign of the cross again. In the name of the of the father, and the Son,and of the Holy Spirit.

All the quietness broke out when Monique blew out the candles. We had a little time to reflect on how we were going to be that day.

Reflection of last 3 weeks

In the last three weeks we been leaning how to use a netbook. In Room 3 we have been learning how to comment on other peoples blogs or learning how to make a new document on the Google docs. In reading I am in group green, In maths I am in circles. In R.E and writing we do not have groups. I love being in Room 3 because we get to have a teacher that knows how to use a netbook.

Diggity

I knelt beside/  next  to  Diggity.  He made no effort/ attempt   to get up.  His neck was a pulpy mass/  a lump  of blood, and his rib cage rose and fell unevenly/  bumpily  .  Dad scooped/hand out  him into his arms and staggered/  waver up the beach.  Mum and Lucy were already in the car with the hatch/  key  up and engine running.  The vet said Diggity had lost heaps/  loads of blood.  The outlook/  the view  wasn’t good.  When the phone rang / called  later that evening, nobody was in a hurry to answer/   response               it.  But Diggity did survive.

The story was half sad half interesting.I really like this story  because it is the only story that has Vocabulary  words.  My favourite part of the story was when  they fix up diggity.

Netbook Rollout

Thursday 2nd of February Room 3 got to look at our new netbooks. We got netbooks because schools in tamaki were very lucky

First of all Miss G told us to open the box, then we saw the netbook. Miss G told us to “Lift it up and take it out of the bag,” all we saw was that it was really, really shinny. After that Miss G said we had to take out the charger. Miss G said “Now we are going to countdown from ten and open up our netbooks”, so we counted down to 10. (we had to press the sliver button) Ten, Nine, Eight, Seven, Six, Five, Four, Three, Two, One. Room 3 saw the Manaiakalani symbol appear (it is an earth and a person holding a hook, the meaning is Manaiakalani wants to hook you in to your learning).

After we turned it on, Miss G said we had to make our new passwords, so we did. After that Miss G said we could play games. I played tux typing, tux paint and I took pictures. Finally Miss G told us to turn it off. Some people had to put their netbooks back into the boxes because they hadn’t paid for it but other people could put it in a big thing called a “COW” that charges all the netbooks at once. That’s how Room 3 got their netbooks.

Peculiar Person.

I’m a most peculiar person,
As almost everyone knows.
I’ve a crown on the top of my head,
And nails grow out of my toes.

I’ve eardrums that help me hear.
And eyeballs that help me see,
And there’s even a mole on the tip of my nose,
Yes, there’s nobody quite like me.

I’ve got ‘mussels’ that grow in my arms and my legs,
And shoulder blades on my back.
I’ve a rib-cage to hold my heart in -
There’s really not much that I lack.

There’s a button that does up my tummy,
And my funny-bone keeps me amused.
When I look at myself in the mirror,
It’s no wonder I feel confused.

I'm a most unusual person,
And even my doctor agrees,
For that’s what he said when he came to examine
The caps that I have on my knees.

And I sometimes get pins and needles,
When it’s raining cats and dogs,
But what else could you really expect,
From a person whole throat’s full of frogs!

The Grass: The grass represents the land. Margaret Alyward started our school 1958. I have drawn a picture of Margaret Alyward.
