My Thoughts on Hokulea Visit

In this picture it shows the performers doing the Haka. The occurred when the people came ashore. Before the ceremony started the crowed was very noisy. But as the people came ashore the noise faded away. Loud and powerful voices broke into the silence. The performers swayed there hips while we sang as loud as we could.

During this  time I felt excited, and happy. I couldn’t wait to hear there stories. As the day went on our guests spoke about their adventures and stories. It was quite interesting listening to what they had to say. At the end of the day I felt proud and honoured to have met these people.

Solving maths problems

This task is about solving maths problems.

a) There are 21 people at a beach, and 13 more people arrive.
Show how to work out how many people are at the beach altogether.

21 + 13 = 34
20 + 10 = 30
1 + 3 = 4

Answer: 34

b) Two classes go on camp together. One class has 37 students and the other has 28.
Show how to work out how many students go on camp.

37 + 28 = 65
30 + 20 = 50
8 + 7 = 15
50 + 15 = 65


Answer: 65

c) A farmer has 63 cows.  He buys 59 more cows.  
Show how to work out how many cows he has altogether.

63 + 59 = 122
60 + 50 = 110
9 + 3 = 12
110 + 12 = 122

Answer:  122

The Arrival of the Hokulea Boat

Today we were lucky enough to meet the Navigators of Hokulea.
As we walked on the field, I could see the boats. The boats looked like beautiful clouds floating on air. I was as hot as an oven, I couldn’t even control my breathing. As we walked down onto our quarters, Before us was a beautiful scene. It was so beautiful and breathtaking. I couldn’t stop staring at the scene.

I could hear the sounds of a horn, as the people walked ashore.  As they walked on land, The people started to sing. It sounded like a beautiful melody. All the schools in the Manaiakalani  Cluster attended this matter.
Throughout the ceremony there was alot of singing & speech’s.
It was a very emotion and beautiful Ceremony.

As  we walked back to the bus, I looked back on the day. I enjoyed hearing the speeches, and singing along with one thousand other students. I think that I was very lucky to be part of that event.

Hokulea : Expressive Writing

On March 8, 1975  a beautiful canoe Hokulea was launched. Hokulea mean’s “Stars of Gladness”. It was launched from the Sacred Shores  of Kaneohe, Bay on Oahu, helping to build momentum for a powerful Hawaiian residence.

Between 1975 - 2000, Hokulea sailed on six major voyages from Hawaii to  at the apex of the Polynesian triangle, to Aotearoa (New Zealand) at the southwestern corner, and finally to Rapa Nui, at the southeastern corner. Currently undergoing drydock work in New Zealand under the leadership  of Master Navigators. Now Hokulea celebrates her  40th Birthday.

Master navigator Kālepa Baybayan shares from Aotearoa that, “Hōkūleʻa is a symbol of hope grounded in a tradition of exploration and discovery.

Reading Activities : Week 5

Evidence:
The purpose of the author, was to retell or talk about
the events from the past. From this story, it’s about how a accident took place and the boy rescued the driver.

Vocabulary:
  • Whooping

Recount  Writing:
When: Then, Last Summer, something happened
Who: My cousin Jake
What: We watched the truck plement 20 metres into the river below
Where: The bridge was so old
How: Something was splitting and suddenly crack
Why: The bridge broke because it was old, and rusty.

Sentence Structure:
Simple - Jake did wrestling
Compound -He would try out new holds on my, even though he knew I didn’t like it
Complex -  Instead I grabbed the driver’s other arm, and together, we pulled him out into the river and thrashed towards the surface.

Simile and Metaphor:
Simile - No Similes
Metaphor - Slinging his beefy arms across my shoulders

  5. Why didn’t the driver think about taking small amounts of hay across the bridge
