PAT Math Test Reflection

This morning we had a  on-line Math test which is called PAT. At first I felt uneasy and scared. I was not looking forward to it.  I started to get familiar with the questions. I felt unsure in my answers. There were some questions that  I didn't know, but I didn't let that stop me. If I’d reached a question that was unknown to me, I would pick a answer which I thought was the best. I am  not so confident, but I tried my best.

Level 2 Addition

Solving maths problems

This task is about solving maths problems.

a) There are 21 people at a beach, and 13 more people arrive.

Show how to work out how many people are at the beach altogether.

21 + 13 = 34

20 + 10 = 30

1 + 3 = 4

Answer: 34

b) Two classes go on camp together. One class has 37 students and the other has 28.

Show how to work out how many students go on camp.

37 + 28 = 65

30 + 20 = 50

8 + 7 = 15

50 + 15 = 65

Answer: 65

c) A farmer has 63 cows.  He buys 59 more cows.  

Show how to work out how many cows he has altogether.

63 + 59 = 122

60 + 50 = 110

9 + 3 = 12

110 + 12 = 122

Answer:  122

Subtraction ; Xtra Math!!

I've finally reached Subtraction in Xtra Maths.

To be honest it's pretty hard, I'm use to addition.

That's what learning about, picking up your mistakes. Well here is a  picture of my results:-)

Lately I've been working on Math Whiz and Xtra Maths. I really enjoy learning more and more about Maths. I also really like solving out the problems  and learning.Here are some photos referring to my Work.

For my Multiplication I got 8/10, and for Division I got 7/10.  By the end of the week I will try to concentration on what I've got wrong.  

I Don't understand Fractions, Percentages, Square Roots and Factors. By the end of this year, I will work on my mistakes.

My Maths

In Maths Lately I've been working on a Statistic Investigation. I've also been working on a Maths Website called XtraMaths. I think that it's a great site for practising on.

Maths Number Problem

1. Sally had 56 apples. She gave away 7 apples to her friend Anna, and she ate 9 apples. How many are left??
Strategy : 7 - 56 = 49 and 49 - 9 = 40
So the answer is 40. 
- From this I've learnt how to take away from numbers. 

2. Sam was given 50 dollars from his birthday. He gave 20 dollars to his parents, and 11 dollars were stolen.  How much money was left over?
Strategy : 50 - 20 = 30 and 30 - 11 = 19 
So the answer is 19
-From this I've learnt how to take away and use the answer from the equation  and takeaway from that number.

3. Nicole has a collection of the Frangipani Flowers. She has 100 flowers altogether. For her 11th birthday she was given another set of Flowers. But this time she got a set of Lilly flowers . If she was to times the amount of lilly flowers twice she would get the number 40.
How much Lilly flowers did she receive.

Strategy : 20 x 2 = 40 so there is 40 lilly flowers. 100 + 40 = 140. 
- I've learnt from this how to multiply big numbers .
  

Fractions

WALT: Find fractions of a quantity

1. Matthew is a huge rugby league fan and has 28 NRL cards. One quarter of them are Melbourne Storm cards. How many of them are Melbourne Storm cards?

STRATEGY:

28 ÷ 4= 7

7x1= 7

SOLUTION SENTENCE:

There are 7 Melbourne Storm cards

2. In Mark’s class there are 18 children. ⅓ of them are boys. How many boys are in Mark’s class?

STRATEGY:

18÷3=6

6x1=6

SOLUTION SENTENCE:

There are 6 boys in Marks class

3. Luke has 32 first cousins. ¾ of them live in Auckland and the rest of them live in Wellington. How many of Luke’s cousins live in Auckland?

STRATEGY:

32÷4=8

8x3=24

SOLUTION SENTENCE:

Luke has 24 cousin’s in Auckland.
