Thank you letter

Dear Mrs Wright,

Hi my name is Sonya, I’m from Room three/Year five at Saint Pius X Catholic School. I am 10 years old and my teacher is Miss G.

Thank you for all the lovely books that you have brought us and provided for us. We really appreciate your kindness and generosity.

My favourite book is from Thea Stilton and it is called ‘The Mystery in Paris’. It is when the Thea sisters go to Paris for a holiday. I really enjoyed reading this because it was very interesting to read. It was interesting to read because there was some clues on the bottom of each page and there were some very unusual things that were happening.

Yours sincerely,
Room 3

Netbook Reflection

Getting a netbook from the start of the year was very exciting for us here in Saint Pius X school in Room three because it was our first time having our own learning tool to learn with. We were unsure of using a netbook at first, in fact some of us got apprehensive. At first our typing on a netbook wasn’t very good, some of us typed 4 words per minute. As the terms went on we started to get more and more confident and brave using a netbook. It was amazing seeing such wonderful things on the netbook and what it could do.

Now using netbooks we have improved in learning and sharing our knowledge. Using a netbook got better and better as the terms pasted by, now we are starting to finish our work faster and we are typing faster than before. Using a netbook is much easier than using a book and a pencil like before. Our netbooks made a big difference in our learning as we find learning much more fun. Now we are getting really addicted to using a netbook because we used it for everything in our classroom.

The good things about having a netbook is that ever since we started to do our work on the Netbook we have gotten independant and we get more time to finish off our work. Usually when we work in a book our hands hurt because we would write for ages, but our hands don’t hurt that much because of typing it makes it much more easier especially with having Miss G to show how to type faster. It is also easier to publish to our class blog because before we had to write down our work in a book then we had to type it onto the computer, now we just copy and paste it from our docs.

There are some negatives about having a netbook, sometimes doing your work on a netbook can distract you because you can play games or you could go on a website that you are not supposed to go on. The other thing that is negative is when you take your netbook home you have to charge it, sometimes it could be really hard to remember to charge. It also gets really slow while you are doing your work it could freeze or it could die out. The last thing that is negative for your netbook is having warranty problems, small things can go wrong with your netbook.

What I’m looking forward to next year is learning new things on the netbook and I am looking forward to learning with a new teacher.

PIZZA Description

Pizza is like a round ball but thinner, it tastes so delicious and yummy. It feels very soft and squishy. It is soft like a cake and it is used for parties and special dinners. Pizza is special because it is made out of many ingredients.

It is found at a pizza shop in the kitchen where the pizza is made. It is also found all over the world, not only in New Zealand. The first place that pizza was first invented in was Italy.

The Lego Story

Lego Started a long time ago in Switzerland 1932 then it ended up in England. There was a wood maker named Oli and he owned a shop. Sadly he had to fire some of his workers, A few years later his wife die.

He first started to make wood toys, Then he thinked of some other toys that he could make. Oli had 4 sons to look after, Godfrey always helped his father after school with his business.

The name Lego was found on a truck while Oli waited for his delivery he tried to think of a better name for the workshop. When the truck was outside of the workshop, he finally saw that he could name his business Lego. One day while Oli was making a bunch of wooden toys a rich man was welcomed into the workshop. He wanted the toys to be sold at his shop.

Oli was given a piece of plastic that was invented, when he got into his car he asked his son Godfrey if they should buy the plastics. So that is how Lego Started. Even though times were rough Oli and his son still didn’t give up.

The Lego business is still going from 1932. My favourite part from this movie was when Oli’s son Godfrey  made the LEGO bricks come to life. I like this movie because it was really interesting to watch.

Tongue Twister Poems

Betty Botter
Betty Botter
bought some butter.
"But," she said,
"the butter's bitter.
If I put it
in my batter,
it will make
my batter bitter.
But a bit
of better butter--
that would make
my batter better."
So she bought
a bit of butter,
better than
her bitter butter.
And she put it
in her batter,
and the batter
was not bitter.
So 'twas better
Betty Botter
bought a bit
of better butter!

Betty Botter's Biting

Betty Botter bought a beaver.
But the beastly beaver bit her.
So she bought a biting badger.
And the badger bit the beaver.
Since the badger bit the beaver,

now the beaver will not bite her.
So 'twas better Betty Botter
bought a beaver-biting badger.

Cricket Recount

During this term  we learnt how to play cricket. Our coach  told us everything about cricket and what to do.  It was really hard in the first place but as we started to play more often, we got used to playing cricket.

Let’s Begin! In the morning for the first lesson of cricket  we went into the courts and sat down to wait for our coach to tell us what to do . Later on we started our warm up with running, throwing, Walking and exercises.

It was loads of fun playing cricket every week on a Tuesday. When we were finished doing our warm up’s we went onto the field and played a real game of cricket. Sometimes we would go out onto the field with our reliever Mr Blackmore and play cricket at the end of the day ,if we had finish all of our work.

We are so lucky to have coaches  from around the world come to our school and teach us how to play sports.

“Pack up Room three we are going out to play a game of cricket” said our teacher as we started to pack up and line up outside.  We had to break up into two teams, one batting and the other team fielding.  I was in the batting team.

We played heaps of cricket. Sadly at the end of the day our  team didn’t win.

Favourite Food Rap

I love to eat Fruits when I put on my boots,
Fruits are healthy but not when i’m wealthy

Sometimes I eat them while sick ,
then I eat them on top of a stick.

I eat it at home and at the park,
Especially when i’m running past

I do not like it when it falls
But I still like to eat them all

When the fruits are all finished
then I start to eat the spinach

Film Festival:)

Today Room Three went to the Manaiakalani Film Festival. Every year Saint Pius X Catholic School participates in this Festival. Room 3 entered in a movie based on three words. Rachel and I presented our movie and it was very exciting for us because it was our first time seeing ourselves on the big screen and it was our first time presenting a movie in front of heaps of people.

Lets begin! Early in the morning I woke up and got ready to go to school. When I got to school I had to take my little sister and nephew to the playgroup. After that I went to my classroom to get myself ready for the day. “RING, RING, RING” went the bell as we walked over to line up.  Then we went back into our classrooms.  Luckily Rachel and I got to go with our principal to the theatre.

Finally it was our turn to shine. “I love school” I said as I shook as I was so nervous. But we still went on talking. As we walked down the steps the movies began. I was so proud of Room Three and myself because it was very emotional seeing that we have finally completed our first Film I can’t wait for the next Film Festival.

My favourite part  from the day was when I got to present our movie. My favourite film was “The Test” from Point England Rm18 because it was really funny and interesting to watch.

Life Education Van

Today was Room Three's last day going to the Life Education Van. The Life Education Van comes every year to our school to teach us more about life. We met Harold the giraffe.  Today we learnt about different food sources and the food pyramid. We even learnt about our body digestion. Their are three parts in your mouth that you use to eat and it was your teeth, Tongue and siliva. Then the food that you ate go's down into something we call your Oesophagus  throat. It squeezes the food down and it  moves around your body so it could be in  certain parts in your body. The next place that the food goes to is your small Intestines and from there it is broken up into small bits so the good bits could go into your blood in your arm and the bad bits it will go into the toilet.

Yesterday Room three learnt what or who is a good sportsmanship and why. To be a good sportsman you should play fair and not cheat. We can show good sportsmanship by showing kindness rather than breaking the rules. When playing sport everyone should be helpful to their team and team mates. We can show good sportsmanship by being honest to the ref and the other team.

The Duffy Show

Today Saint Pius X School watched a Duffy Show. It was called Duffy and the Best book in the World. Some actors act in front of children at school's every year.

My favourite part from the show was when some of the students in the school got up and they got to act in the show too. One of my favourite parts from the students acting was when they were going to be wrapping paper for one of the acts because it was very cool seeing the children being unwrapped from the present.

Fact and Opinion Activity

Fact and Opinion

Six of these statements are opinions about features of John’s life, not facts.  Place ticks beside the six opinions.
When John Rutherford was six years old he was sent to work in a cotton mill.
He ran away to sea as a cabin boy when he was ten.
Going to sea was the beginning of a hard and adventurous life.
The life of a cabin boy did not suit John at all.
Later, when he was older, he was forced to join the crew of a British warship.
During one of his voyages he fell ill and was left in Hawaii.
Life was boring and dull in Hawaii with nothing to do.
When the next ship docked, he joined it and sailed to New Zealand.
During the voyage to New Zealand the ship was caught in the worst storm ever seen in the Pacific.
When the ship anchored in New Zealand waters, some Maori came on board.
The captain was too afraid to try and stop them.
A fight broke out and John was taken prisoner by the Maori.
After his capture, John had his face tattooed.
The tattooing hurt a great deal, but he lay still and quiet to show how brave he was.
After a time, John’s Maori captors made him a chief.
