My Best Piece of Writing 2015

“We will  be going in 10 minutes!” shouted Mrs Tui. She struggled to get everyone’s attention. Her words were lost. “Wait up Sia!” I yelled. My legs tiredly walked until I reached my destination. “Make sure to stay with your group” instructed Mrs Tui. The sun was like an  oven, burning everything and anything under it.

“We are finally here” I thought to myself. The sound of loud engines distracted my thought. “Our train will come in 8 minutes, make sure to stay together” commanded Mrs Tui. “ Are you excited?” inquired Ierei. I cheerfully   shook my head. “Mind the gap” a unfamiliar voice popped up.
“We are now arriving at Panmure” the robotic voice announced. My heart was in my throat.

We walked from the train station to Skate Land. Skateland is  beside Mount Wellington. “It doesn’t look  big” I thought. That thought changed once I stepped into the building. “Wow.” I was astonished.  Their was a big skating rink and spectator seats surrounding  it. “ Welcome to SkateLand” a unknown voice welcomed. “Go to the stand and ask for your size” ordered Mrs Tui.

I stood up cautions of my aching legs, and plodded to the stand. “Size 9 please” I asked. I slowly eased my feet into my shoes and headed to the skating rink. At first  it was hard to find my balance. A hour later I had improved, alot. “Can you help me Ierei?” I cried. I was scared to death. Before I knew it I was lying on the floor helplessly. I had fallen to the ground a couple of times. I had gotten used to it, and it turned into alot of fun. “You’ve got 45 minutes left” declared  Mrs Tui. I sighed.

“We will now be walking up Mt. Wellington” proclaimed  Mrs Tui. I sighed with a horrified expression. I slowly  picked up my feet and  dragged myself up the steep hill. “We’re nearly there!” encouraged  Ierei.  I felt like fainting.
“ We made it !” I screamed in exhaustion.  I sat down and concentrated on regaining my breath. “We have 10 minutes left” announced Mrs Tui.

Walking down the hill was hard. I was extremely tired and dehydrated. “I’ll see you tomorrow Hola” I uttered as I strolled down the hill.

Cluster Culture Festival

On Friday 6th November 30 of our students including myself here are St Pius X Catholic School had the privilege to represent our school, at our very first Cluster Culture Festival. We had 4 different ethnicity groups including : Samoan, Tongan , Cook Island , and Maori.

We were all united with the Liturgical Dance. We told the story of our school by dance. Our story commenced when the Holy Faith Sisters arrived into New Zealand and started our school. This is when the Maori people arrived. Our Maori Group performed beautifully. It was a great start to the dance. The dance then concludes onto the Cook Island group (performed by Aurora), The Samoan group, and ends off with the Tongan.

We were all reunited with the Liturgical Dance. I was relived and happy that it was over. All of our hard work and late practises paid off. At first I was definitely anxious. I felt proud of everyone including myself. After performing we all gathered together and watched the other schools perform. I was exhausted and could not believe that it was over.

Sailing .... Have a Go! - Recount Writing

20151112_114244.jpg
The day of Sailing had finally arrived. We were lucky to receive this grant of having two days of sailing. Since the sailing activity could only take up to 12 people, my class was split into two groups. Fortunately I was in the first group. We had 3 hours of straight sailing. The thought of it sent shivers down my spine.

“Is everyone here Room 7 ?” inquired  Mrs Tui. “ No not everyone has arrived” I answered .   Horror was painted onto her face. “ We will be going very soon!” cried Mrs Tui. I was as worried as a convicted murderer.  “ Everyone hop into the car” announced  Mrs Tui. I slowly dragged myself  into the car, and rolled away.

“I can’t wait!” yelled Seuati. I smiled brightly pretending to act happy. Judging by his tone he seemed somewhat animated. “Whoa these boats are really small!” I thought to myself. For the half a  hour we got prepared and learned about the yachts. Once we had finished we released the yachts into the water and headed off. “ Hold on Aurora, Be careful!” I shrieked.

“Look, Justin’s boat flipped over!” I wailed. We all laughed in response of the incident. “Jump in Sonya” urged Aurora. I was getting ready to run away. “ Come it’s not too bad!”  she squealed with  frustration. I slowing plodded myself on the platform. Off I went. The wind wasn't too heavy. I was eager to reach the deadline, so I went as fast as I could.

“I think that I am going to sink” I thought as I gradually continue. “ I have to get this water out of my boat immediately” I thought to myself. I sigh heavily wishing I’d went with Aurora. “ You have to get the water out as fast as you can!” shouted Reuben as I drifted off. I could feel my face slowly shutting down. “You can do this!” I tried my best to be strong and concentrate . “ You made it!” yelled Aurora as I pulled onto the beach.

Before we could have our lunch, we had to get changed. After getting changed we had our lunch. All of the Sailing had made me ravenous.  “ I wish we could stay for longer” I sighed as we drove off.

PAT Math Test Reflection

This morning we had a  on-line Math test which is called PAT. At first I felt uneasy and scared. I was not looking forward to it.  I started to get familiar with the questions. I felt unsure in my answers. There were some questions that  I didn't know, but I didn't let that stop me. If I’d reached a question that was unknown to me, I would pick a answer which I thought was the best. I am  not so confident, but I tried my best.

Recount Writing : The Movies

Big screens, Dark Large Rooms, and Big red chairs. I love going to the movies, if I could I would go everyday. In the Holidays my family went to the movies, to watch a film  named ‘Pan’. I really enjoyed watching this movie, because it was interesting and unique. The day started with searching for a movie to watch. Until I found the  movie  Pan  . I was allured by its appearance and description, so I decided that we should watch this movie.

Since my cousin was coming with us, on our way to the movies we had to pick him up. And off we went. When we arrived at the movies a rush of excitement came over me. The cinemas was packed full of people waiting and coming in and out. It was madness watching this process happen .

The movie started off very peculiar, and ended off quite emotionally. I loved the storyboard and the set out of the movie. It felt like the movie was dragging on, and made me feel like I was in a line waiting. The movie was unexceptionally  long, but I didn't mind because we had nothing to do afterwards.

On our way out  of the movies, the cinemas had become even more crowed.  This was one day that stayed with me from the holidays. I adore this movie and hope to see it again sometime soon. The day concluded with the sun shining through, and a smile on my face.

Welcome to Term 4

Welcome everyone to another term and the last term of the year, We have 9 weeks packed full of alot more testing and learning. Please stay tuned for more posts. Thank You :)

Cross Country Recount

The day started off with beautiful shiny weather. I wasn’t  that keen on running but was determined to do so.  It was the day of Cross Country, an event that brings everybody together. Cross Country didn’t start until 1 o'clock, so we had some time to kill.

We had a lot of to do before Cross Country commenced. In Saint Pius we have 4 groups or houses, the whole school is  put into one of these groups. I’m in the Tui's group. Each group had to come up with a chant. Tui’s decided to create a new chant.

When it hit 12 : 45 the bell rang, and everybody lined up in there houses.  We all had to walk down to the start line. The first race was the Room 1 and 4 children. Once the blocks thumped together, all of the children zoomed off.
Then it was our turn. My hands were sweating and my heart thrashing with no end. BOOM ! Off we went.

As I reached the finish line, I started to run. Then all my pain and discomfort came to it’s end. I was relieved and grateful that it was over. It wasn’t quite over yet, we still had our chants to perform. We shouted as loud as we possibly could. The day ended with the sun still shining, and children smiling.

Saint Pius Feast Day

The day started off with a beautiful glimmer. Children running around like chickens without heads. Teacher's screaming like the world was ending. This mass was cruel and every little detail needed to be perfect. All of the readers needed to practice, the slideshow checked and the singing rehearse over and over. What a day!

The mass started beautifully with a elegant song. The mass continued with beautiful readings, a teaching homily and magnificent singing and hymns.  I had the honor and privilege to represent Room 7 with my poem.  Each class in our school had to write a poem our Saint Pius X. I decided to write a diamante poem.

After the mass a cutting of the cake ceremony. Every year we have a big cake, which we share among ourselves. All of the year 8 girls had to help in distributing the cake. Before this happened Oscar and Sako had to cut the cake.

I learnt more about Saint Pius X as I do every year. This feast day was my last and bestest.

Our Magical Trip

Screen Shot 2015-08-21 at 11.59.56 AM.png
Thoughts jogging  through my mind. My mind spinning and spinning with endless excitement. This was  caused by our trip to Kelly Tarltons. It first commenced  by  walking down a blue and magical walkway. We walked down until we reached our destination. My first thought was what if ?  or what will happen ?

We were given specific instructions to walk until we reached the Penguins. I loved every moment of it. I wished it had never ended. My favorite part from our first activity was hanging out with my friends. After that we carried on as we walked by,  there were pieces of information for us to read.

The day continued with lots of learning for me, and for the school. When we extended  to the tunnel, I found this  fascinating and beautiful. I adored every bit of staring at the sharks and other marine animals.

My favorite part from our trip  was the tunnel, because it was an great experience. I would love to go back to Kelly Tarltons.

My Response to Sean

Red - Independent Clause
Sean talk to us about shark finning. I think that Sean's work is magnificent. What he’s doing it very brave and inspiring. Especially when he’s very young. I look up to him and hope to be like him when I grow up. I’ve never heard of shark finning before watching this video, so it was a good learning experience for me.  I   think that it’s  very courageous  of him to stop such a bad things.

If you are interesting, and want to help Sean check this video out >

My First Hockey Session

Hockey, is one sport I find quite peculiar and new. We now have hockey  lessons every Wednesday. The first session was one to remember. I don’t like hockey, don’t play it, and don’t watch it. I especially find it impossible to  balance the ball on the stick.

The lesson started off with a warm up, which was running and crawling up and down the hall. I found that fun and tiring. After our warm up’s we started to get into the basic’s of hockey. We learnt the techniques of hitting and stopping. We also had to balance the ball on the stick.

I quite enjoyed practising these skills, it was entertaining and amusing. My favourite part from the lesson was learning how to balance the ball on the stick, even if it was very difficult and  tough.

The first lesson from hockey, was awesome and impressing. I obviously underestimated  hockey,  I thought it would be absolutely bland and boring. But it was the exact opposite.

The Rainbow Fish

Opening Statement : Why he should of given his scales

In my opinion the Rainbow Fish, should give his scales away.
My first reason is that because if he didn’t he would stay unhappy, which isn’t good for anyone.

My  second reason is that because sharing is the best solution to happiness and joy. If he didn’t share his possessions, everyone would end up unhappy.

My last  reason is that giving his scales  would be the solution for him (rainbow fish) to have friends again, he would’ve been very lonely with his scales.

This story has told me, that it doesn’t matter what’s on the outside, but on the inside is what matters.

The Warrior's Visit

Plan :
When - 29.07.15 9 :00
Why -
Where - The Hall, St. Pius X School
Who  - 2 Warrior Players , Students, Teachers/Staff
What -
Talk about themselves
Activities
How - Excited , Happy  & Cheery
IMG_2787.JPG

The bell rang, Everyone  suddenly rushed into the hall like a herd of lions. I knew that  something wasn’t quite right.
As soon as I stepped into the hall everyone was in there lines looking smart and clean, and in front of them were 2 warrior’s. My sudden reaction is what I remember most.

I personally felt happy and excited. We (as a school) played alot of guessing games, and some boys were selected to do some rugby drills. I thought it was a nice way of inspiring our young students. I hope for another visit from the warriors.

I loved the way the way faces lit up, once they started talking.  They were  quite different from our other visitors. After prizes were given,  the boys started on their drills. I personally think that, that was boring. I hate watching rugby.

I thought that it was a great and significant way to start the day. I can’t wait for our next visitors.

Netball Tournament Recount

Whistle’s blown everywhere, short skirts worn, &  balls thrown everywhere. Yesterday the year 8 & 7 team went to the  netball tournament. It was a indescribable experience. It started off with a cold and cloudy day. I was so nervous my teeth shook wildly. The other teams looked very experienced and intimidating.

The day started off with the year 7’s first game, which in my opinion was a awesome way to start the day. Our year 8 team had alot of time to get ready for our first team, while we waited we watched a male match. It was quite different and it looked fun. A couple of minutes later our first game was going to commence. So we all rushed to the court to start the game.

In total we had 4 games, plus the 1 night game.  I especially liked meeting new people & mixing with different schools. I couldn’t resist but to feel nervous throughout the games and day. I had to make sure that  my nerves did not affect the game. I played as hard as I could, which is all that mattered.

I enjoyed myself, and I hope everyone else did. The beautiful, rough day ended off with a frozen drink. Which was what we all needed. I will always cherish this  day, and the honor of playing with my friends.

The Legend of Te Arohuruhuru

Illustration of The Legend of Te Arohuruhuru
For Maori Language Week, We had to find a Maori Legend, and Illustrate the Legend. We found the Legend of Te Arohuruhuru. It is a very sad story, about how Te Arohuruhuru committed suicide.

Here is how the story goes :
There was once an old man who was married to a very beautiful woman named Te Arohuruhuru. One night, he woke up. Te Arohuruhuru's cloak had slipped off, displaying her naked body. He thought she looked so beautiful that he called some friends over so he could kinaki (brag) and show them his beautiful wife's body. While they were staring at her, She woke up. She was very whakama (embarrassed). The next day, she put on all her jewellery and her best korowai ( cloaks) . She combed her lovely long hair, and put two feathers in it. Then she went to a cliff near the village. Her husband would go under this cliff on his way back from fishing. When her husband's fishing canoe was nearly under the cliff, Te Aro Huruhuru started to sing. The song was about her husband embarrassing
her. As her husband's cone went past, She jumped from the cliff. From that day on, The Cliff has been called Te Rerenga o Te Aro Huruhuru, Or Suicide Point, And this point is out at Akitio

Netball Recount

23.06.15  Netball Season
Planing:
Who - Supporters, SPX Y8 TEAM
What - Netball, Sport 2015
When - Term 2 - 3
Where - AMI Netball Courts
Why - For Sport
How - Thrilled,  Intoxicated, Arouse, Motivated, Inspired, Encouraged, Influenced

Flashlights beaming everywhere, Balls bouncing around uncontrollably, Loud  girls howling all over the place.
Netball is a sport I love playing and observing. Tough is the best word to describe the season. For me it was my very first season, and being in a team.

Winning wasn’t an option, for some people it was. I didn’t worry that much about winning. At the end of the day I received something much better than an award,  I got a sisterhood in return. I loved every second of training, observing & playing.

The one game that stayed with me is the last one. I loved every second of it, I didn’t take notice of winning or losing. I enjoyed playing & cheering my teammates on. We have lost 2 games. I grew closer to girls I didn’t really know, which I adored.

The season wasn’t easy, but we kept our heads up. We are like a family, we always stick together.

My Holiday Writing : Longo's Game

My Goals are to:
  • add detail by using specific vocabulary and to give examples.
  • create mood in my writing by using interesting vocabulary, similes and metaphors.
  • use different sentence structures for effect.
22.07.15 Karaka
Plan:
When - 11.06.15 Saturday 11 July
Where -  Karaka
Why - To watch my cousin in law
Who - My Family, My Cousin In law, The Crowd
What - A rugby game
How -  I felt excited, happy, thrilled, delighted

Mud splashing everywhere, Sweat running down, Balls thrown everywhere. Rugby is the one sport I dislike with a passion. Lucky for me Saturday was the day of watching it. Saturday 11 of July, was the saddest day of my life.

It was the day of Rugby, which did not give my joy or happiness. What did make me excited, was that the game was held in Karaka. Karaka is a small suburb or town near Pakuranga.   Not knowing was Karaka would look like scared me for some reason.

But that changed once we arrived. Karaka reminded me of being in the Countryside. The fresh air gave me great pleasure and delight. Arriving to the field felt like arriving to a pig stye, literally.  The field was filled with mud, mushy and  soft mud.  The game was not as bad as I thought it would be. It was actually quite entertaining & fascinating.

The game concluded and a lot of photos were taken. I had a sad feeling that we were to leave Karaka. But I know that we may return some day.

Lectio Divina - Traditional Prayer

Today I learnt about Lectio Divina. Lectio Divina is a Prayerful Reading. Lectio Divina is a traditional prayer. This prayer fascinates me, because I've never prayered it.

In response to this, here is my prayer:
Dear God,
You want us to clothe ourselves with Patience. Please help me to be Patience with others.
Amen.
